Achieving the Ultimate Jawline

Video

Dr. Michael Somenek discusses different treatment areas for achieving the ultimate jawline.

At the recent American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) virtual meeting, Michael Somenek, MD, facial plastic surgeon, Somenek + Pittman MD Advanced Plastic Surgery, and meeting co-chair, discussed the focal treatment areas for creating an aesthetically pleasing jawline.

In his presentation, “Techniques to Achieve the Ultimate Jawline,” Dr. Somenek says he can take a surgical or nonsurgical approach with the chin. For a more permanent solution, he opts for a silicone implant with a minimal incision. If his patients are looking for a minimally invasive option, dermal fillers can be used to augment the chin for an instant improvement and no downtime.

To treat the submental fat pad region of the jawline, Dr. Somenek recommends submental liposuction, which instantly improves the treatment area, can be done in the office, and requires minimal downtime. Although Kybella can also be used for the region, the patient needs two to four treatments of the injectable to see results compared to submental liposuction.

For the actual line and angle of the jaw, Dr. Somenek’s favorite treatment is dermal filler, which will build up over time and result in a patient needing less and less of the injectable.
